New Cookie Shop Opens In Downtown Joliet
DeWitt's Gourmet is on Cass Street across from Andy's Shoe Repair.

JOLIET, IL - The revitalization of downtown Joliet continues one building at a time. On Monday, Joliet Patch reported on the grand opening of Catrinas Mex: Real Mexican Food, at the site of the former Olde Keg restaurant, a property that stood vacant since 2009. Also this week, Nicholas Morris opened his DeWitt's Gourmet, a homemade cookie business at 20 East Cass St.
DeWitt's Gourmet is located just around the corner from Jitters Coffee House and near The Forge.
For its first week, DeWitt's is opened for limited hours as the new owners get the business up and running. The cookie shop will be open again from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Morris said.

Moving forward, Morris said the plan is to be open Monday through Friday from around 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"The chocolate chip cookie, definitely, that's the signature cookie," declared Natasia Eskridge, who is a business partner in DeWitt's.

Here's some other good news: DeWitt's Gourmet has partnered up with Cool Creations in Lockport to offer homemade ice cream at the downtown Joliet business.
DeWitt's Gourmet also features dry ingredients available in 32-ounce jars for $15.
The jars make great gifts for the holidays and birthdays, Eskridge told Joliet Patch.
Joliet's new downtown cookie shop also plans to offer a featured cookie of the week.

As for Morris, he's quite busy this weekend. He will be competing on Saturday at the popular Men Who Cook competition which is being held at the Chicagoland Speedway. The event is moving to the sprawling infield at Chicagoland Speedway from 6-9 p.m., Sept. 22. Last year's event had more than 1,110 people.
"So we can be found there as well," Morris remarked.
