Imported Foods Now Sold At New Joliet Storefront

JOLIET, IL — The number of empty storefronts on Joliet's West Jefferson Street diminishes every month. Market Xpress is the newest business addition, opening Sept. 9.

It's owned and operated by Gabriel Baeta, who lives in Joliet. He said that Market XPress is now open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

"We are selling goods imported from Venezuela, Colombia, Argentina and we have coming soon Peru and Honduras," the store owner told Joliet Patch's editor during Thursday's interview.

Located at 1306 West Jefferson, Market XPress is next to the David Nelson Exquisite Jewelry.

"We have different candies, different rice beans and grains," Baeta said. "We bring in a lot of imported cheeses, different Chorizo, sausages, Arapas and Tequenos."

Market XPress displays the flags of four different countries on top of the storefront: United States, Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia.

"We are a supermarket with a variety of packaged juices, tortillas, just basic products for home, eggs, milk and yogurt," he said. "We have received a good welcome from the community, a lot of people come after 3 p.m."
