New Joliet Chamber Group Meets Thursday At Jacob Henry Ballroom
The new African American Business Association wants to bring more black-owned businesses to the Joliet area.

JOLIET, IL - Thursday evening marks an important milestone for the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Joliet's African American community. The new African American Business Association will hold its first-ever social event, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Jacob Henry Victorian Ballroom on South Richards Street. The event will include remarks, networking opportunities, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.
Joliet Chamber officials say the turnout is expected to include U.S. Congressman Bill Foster, Joliet Mayor Bob O'Dekirk and Will County Executive Larry Walsh. Additionally, Cornel Darden Jr., chief information officer at Casanova Information Services in Shorewood, is also slated to address the audience and talk about the goals and objectives for the new Joliet Chamber subgroup.
Chamber officials stress that Thursday's event is open to all members of the Joliet community. The new group intends to encourage more African American business owners, managers, employers and residents. One recent issue that has been brought to the attention of Joliet's City Council is the need for more black-owned restaurants around Joliet.
