Republicans Will Field Some Will County Office Candidates In 2024

Not one lawyer in Will County dared to file nominating papers to challenge the State's Attorney in his March primary or as a Republican.

JOLIET, IL — As Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow arrived at the Office of Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry, Will County's longest-ever serving state's attorney had his supporters there to photograph him entering her office, shaking her hand and handing over his nominating petitions to place him on the 2024 election ballot.

Not one lawyer in Will County dared to file their own nominating papers to run against Glasgow in the 2024 elections. That means Glasgow will be the only choice for voters come November 2024.

Glasgow will serve as the Will County State's Attorney for four more years, 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028.

"I am truly humbled that the people of Will County have elected me to serve as their top prosecutor for 7 terms and I took forward to continuing to serve an 8th term," Glasgow posted on Facebook. "Being your Will County State's Attorney is a position that I have never taken lightly and I never will."

In September, Glasgow held a news conference to announce that Angel Casillas, 23, of Joliet, was sentenced to 15 months in prison by Will County Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak for causing a 2021 crash resulting from a Scott’s Law violation that left Illinois State Police Trooper Brian Frank gravely injured.

"A prison sentence will not heal the egregious injuries that have left Trooper Frank totally disabled, confined to 24-hour-a day nursing care without the ability to even speak or feed himself. However, it does serve a deterrent effect and send the necessary message that the lives of our dedicated law enforcement community are deserving of protection," Glasgow said at the time.

Over the years, Glasgow has talked about bringing criminal charges in connection with the high-profile disappearances of Plainfield mother Lisa Stebic — saying in 2012 that her case was "on the front burner" — and Stacy Peterson, the still-missing wife of former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson, but Glasgow has backed off doing so.

At no point since Glasgow took office in the early 1990s has he ever filed first-degree murder charges in a case where the victim's body has not been found.

The whereabouts of Stebic and Stacy Peterson remain a mystery now more than 16 years after their respective disappearances.

Although Glasgow will not face any opposition in his bid to serve another four years in office, the Republican Party of Will County has decided that it will run some candidates against the incumbent officeholders of Will County government.

All of the county offices are controlled by the Democratic Party.

Here is a rundown of who has filed to be on the November ballot in 2024:
