NuMark Credit Union Raises $2,500 for Northern Illinois Food Bank

NuMark is a proud supporter of the Northern Illinois Food Bank whose volunteers and staff are working relentlessly to help meet the high demand for food during the COVID-19 crisis. According to their recent report, in May they provided 7.3 million meals. It is by far the most food they have ever distributed in a single month in their 37-year history.

“Right now, we’re seeing COVID-19 impact so many people – and they’re telling us their stories,” says Jessica Stanley-Asselmeier, Development Officer of Corporate Giving. “One such neighbor is a 56 year old woman we met in Elgin at a pop-up market. She was there picking up food not only for herself, but for three other families as well. They received produce, a box of protein, a case of shelf-stable food, and yogurt for each family. She is unable to work because she recently lost her husband to cancer and now has been diagnosed with cancer herself. Of the three families, she was getting food for two people who were immunocompromised – one person was over the age of 80, and the other a Vietnam Veteran. The third family was new to the community, a young single mom with young children, who just couldn’t get out.”

NuMark Credit Union has also stepped up to help. In March, we gave a donation $1,578 of which $578 came directly from staff with the other $1,000 added by NuMark. We sponsored two mobile food trucks. The first was on April 21st at the VA in Joliet, where we were able to serve 143 individuals that benefitted 513 household members.

The second event on May 6th was a sponsorship with Catholic Charities where we were able to help serve 476 families, the highest number of families that Catholic Charities had served at one Mobile Food Pantry event. In June, we asked for member donations and with a credit union match, we are donating another $2,500 to Northern Illinois Food Bank.
