Obituary: Alan A. Sanders

A retired maintenance engineer for the Archdiocese of Chicago and proud United States Veteran, passes away at the age of 80.

Alan Sanders

Alan A. Sanders, age 80, late of Crete, and formerly of Joliet, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022 at Village Woods Senior Living Community in Crete.

Born August 9, 1941 in Joliet, he was the son of the late Wylie M. and Evelyn M. (Funk) Sanders, and was a graduate of Joliet Township High School. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from October 1959 to October 1962, and then continued his service with the Army Reserve. He retired from the Archdiocese of Chicago where he worked many years as a Maintenance Engineer.

Alan is survived by his former wife Ellen Sanders of Channahon, IL and their children Mark Sanders of Joliet, IL and Chris (Karen) Sanders of West Bay, Grand Cayman; former wife Nancy Cotton and her children Jay Sanders of Somonauk, IL; Rita (Matthew) Kennedy of Plainfield, IL; Evelyn Bertolotti of Stegar, IL. He is also survived by his sister, Joan Koenig of Keshena, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Jack Sanders, Donna Lee Horwath, Keith Sanders, Jay Sanders, and Paula Ales.

Loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Graveside services for Alan Sanders will be held Monday, August 29, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, IL, where military honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
