Antonio Martinez, age 80, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at his son, Valentin’s home.

Antonio, also known as El Güero, was born in Rancho De Cepio, Moroleón Guanajuato, Mexico to Aurelio and Magdalena (nee Guzman) Martinez. He carried a deep love for his hometown in Mexico and cherished the memories and connection he had to the place where his life began.
Antonio found joy in the simple things in life. He was an avid baseball fan and especially loved watching the Chicago Cubs. He also loved spending time at the ranch, where he enjoyed the open air, the freedom of being outdoors, and simply being surrounded by the land. He could often be found growing crops, collecting all kinds of things, and caring for the stray cats that found their way to the ranch. His generosity extended to every animal that crossed his path.

Above all else, Antonio loved his family. He treasured the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, brothers, and extended family. His presence, stories, sense of humor, and love for those around him will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Antonio is survived by his wife, Teresa Martinez (Zavala); his beloved children, Valentin A., Jose, Antonio (Sandra Zavala), and Luis R. (Liz Cuautle) Martinez; his loving grandchildren, Evalyn, Antonio, Gabriel, Ricco, and Kataleia Martinez; his brothers, Isidro and Alfredo Martinez, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aurelio and Magdalena Martinez, and his brothers, Arturo and Jesus Martinez.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Funeral services will be Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 205 East Jackson St. Joliet, IL, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest in El Panteon de Cepio, Moroleon, GTO, Mexico.

Antonio Martínez
Antonio Martínez, de 80 años, falleció rodeado de su familia el domingo 16 de agosto de 2026 en la casa de su hijo Valentín.
Antonio, conocido como El Güero, nació en Rancho De Cepio, Moroleón Guanajuato, México, hijo de Aurelio y Magdalena (Guzmán) Martínez. Sentía un profundo amor por su ciudad natal en México y atesoraba los recuerdos y la conexión que tenía con el lugar donde comenzó su vida.
Antonio encontraba alegría en las cosas sencillas de la vida. Era un gran aficionado al béisbol y especialmente le encantaba ver a los Chicago Cubs. También le encantaba pasar tiempo en el rancho, donde disfrutaba del aire libre, la libertad de estar al aire libre y simplemente estar rodeado de la tierra. A menudo se le podía encontrar cultivando, recogiendo todo tipo de cosas y cuidando de los gatos callejeros que llegaban al rancho. Su generosidad se extendía a todos los animales que se cruzaban en su camino.
Por encima de todo, Antonio amaba a su familia. Valoraba mucho el tiempo que pasaba con su esposa, hijos, nietos, hermanos y familia extensa. Su presencia, sus historias, su sentido del humor y su amor por quienes le rodean serán profundamente extrañados y recordados con cariño por todos los que le conocieron.
Antonio deja en vida a su esposa, Teresa Martínez (Zavala); a sus queridos hijos, Valentin A., José, Antonio (Sandra Zavala) y Luis R. (Liz Cuautle) Martínez; sus queridos nietos, Evalyn, Antonio, Gabriel, Ricco y Kataleia Martínez; sus hermanos, Isidro y Alfredo Martínez; así como muchos sobrinos.
Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Aurelio y Magdalena Martínez; y sus hermanos, Arturo y Jesús Martínez.
La velatoria tendrá lugar el Domingo 23 de agosto de 2026, de 14:00 a 19:00, en la Funeraria Fred C. Dames, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL. Los servicios funerarios se celebrarán en la capilla de la funeraria el Lunes 24 de Agosto de 2026 a las 10:00 a.m., seguidiendo la misa en la Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Monte Carmelo, 205 East Jackson St. Joliet, IL. Sus restos descansarán en el Panteón de Cepio, Moroleón, Guanajuato, México.
