Atilano “Tilo” Camara

Atilano Camara, age 94, of Chicago’s Hyde Park Neighborhood, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 26, 2022 at home, with his family by his side. Born on October 29, 1927 in Guatamala to the late Maria Lopez and Jose Atilano Camara. He emigrated to the United States and settled eventually in Hyde Park where he had resided the past 50 years. Atilano retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1995, after many years of dedicated service.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 41 years, Margaret (Lambert) Camara; his children, Raymond E. (Margarita) Potter and Dixie (Stefan) Cipot; grandchildren, Sabrina and Tim Etheridge, Anthony and Carey Brown, Brenda Lee and Angelo Mascheri; great-grandchildren; Austin and Cheyenne Etheridge; Vincent and Lilliana Mascheri; a sister-in-law, Kelly Camara; and cousin, Joetta Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edward Camara.

Tilo loved his family, neighbors and friends. He enjoyed swimming and exercising at the Newport Club, reading passages from the bible and watching classic Western’s. He was a faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Hyde Park.

Funeral services for Atilano Camara will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, where visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until services start at 12 Noon. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park II.
