Age 69, of Joliet, Morris, and the last 3 months of her life, Ottawa, IL, passed peacefully, Saturday morning at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Bernadine was born March 20, 1955, in Joliet where she was raised and educated. She resided in Joliet until 1986 when she moved to Minooka. In 2000 she relocated to Morris where she resided for 24 years. She spent her final months in assisted living in Ottawa, IL to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
She is the loving mother of Kelly (Steve) Underwood of Marseilles, IL; proud and devoted grandmother of Tristen, Gage (Hailey), Kody, and Kennedy Marilyn Underwood. Bernie will also be missed by her daughter's in-laws, Bob and Joyce Underwood; adopted sisters, Gina Vanzaghi and Anita Flint; sister-in-law, Jamie Zola; her nieces and nephew, Ashley (Steve) Bennett, Holly Zola and Eric Zola; and numerous cousins.

Preceded in death by her mother, Marilyn (Harold) Mattson; father, Bernard "Sonny" Zola and brother, Donald "Donnie" Zola.
Bernie enjoyed the sanctity of her home and could be found watching an episode of Friends or the movie "Steel Magnolias" her favorite, as well as the series Sons of Anarchy of which she was a SUPER FAN! Her most favorite moments, however, were spent with her grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
A visitation for Bernie will be Friday, October 11, 2024, from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 1201 W. Rt. 6 (at Deerpath Drive) in Morris. A prayer service will conclude the evening beginning at 7:45 p.m.
As it was Bernadine's wish cremation rites will be accorded following her services and her final earthly remains will be interred at a later date.
