Casimir J. "Casey" Gawenda

Casimir J. "Casey" Gawenda, age 94, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Rock Run Memory Care in Joliet.

Born March 3, 1928 in Joliet, he was the son of Leo and Elizabeth (Kunke). He was a lifelong resident of Joliet.

Casey worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet for 32 years before retiring.

Casey was a perfectionist when it came to his passion of wood working. They say you should measure twice and cut once, he would measure five times and then another 2 before cutting. The highlight of every Christmas was when he would raffle off something he made in his wood working shop.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marian (McKibben) Gawenda; four devoted children, Ann (Tom) Riffle of Joliet, John (Carol) Gawenda of Joliet, Connie (Rob) Patterson of Arizona, and Edward of Joliet; his 10 grandchildren, Casey, Kelly, Craig, Kristy, Brieanna, Michelle, Jaysen, Allan, Haley and Griffin. Sister-In-Law Ann Wojnarowski.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Elizabeth (Kunke); brothers, Edward (Loretta) Gawenda; Eugene (Lou) Gawenda, Richard Wojnarowski, sisters, Harriet (Ben) Wild (Joseph Kopernik), Cecilia (Stanley) Stanek and Eugenia (John) Ritter, Alfrieda Kuhajda and Eleanore Wojnarowski.

A private memorial service will be held. The family is requesting donations in his name to Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
