Obituary: Cecelia Mary Veihl

Once active in Girl Scout Leadership, the former longtime waitress and hostess of Lovis Bros. Restaurant passes away at age 89.

Age 89 of Joliet, IL, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Ceil was born on September 24, 1935, in Lockport, the daughter of the late Corlie M. and Margaret (nee Blake) Lake. She married her late husband, Robert G. Veihl on July 20, 1953, and was employed by Lovis Bros. Restaurant (the former Skylark Restaurant) as a hostess and waitress for over 25 years.

Ceil was a longtime member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Joliet, where she was active in Altar Guild. She enjoyed being the Girl Scout Troop Leader at St. Peter's as well as an Assistant Girl Scout Leader at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Ceil was also an avid bowler, being the secretary of the bowling league at the old Washington Lanes. Her favorite moments were spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; her son, Robert Glenn Veihl, Jr.; her parents; sisters, Carol McKanna, Lillian Shawmeker, and Frances Butler; brothers, Corlie "Pee Wee", George, Ed, Jack, James, and Arthur Lake.

Survived by her daughter, Deborah Lee (Kevin) Schiek and her granddaughter, Heather Marie (Edward) Anderson; great-grandchildren, Logan and Sophia Anderson; and sister-in-law, Judith Lake. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Visitation will be Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet. Interment will follow her funeral service at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church, 310 N. Broadway, Joliet, IL 60435.
