Dr. Ronald J. Galiardo, age 88, passed away on Sunday October 12, 2025, at Lakewood Nursing Home in Plainfield. Ronald was born on February 17, 1937, in Coal City, IL, the son of John and Josephine Gagliardo.

Ron’s vocation was education. He began his career in 1955 when he graduated from Coal City High School. After graduating he successfully pursued a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Music Education at the Vandercook College of Music in Chicago. After commencement he obtained his first position as a grade school teacher in Hinsdale, IL. His career progressed steadily along with his education, and he earned a PhD in education from the University of Illinois, in Champaign Urbana, in 1982. The PhD enabled him to advance to the position of Superintendent of the Tatewoods Lisle School District in 1986/1987. After retiring from the Lisle School District, Ron worked as an adjunct Psychology Professor at the College of DuPage until 2021. Ron was a dedicated educator and his career was his passion.
Ronald never married and had no children. However, he is survived by his nephews, Kevin Fitzgerald, Chris Fitzgerald, and Jonathan Fitzgerald; his great-nieces and nephews, Carrie Fitzgerald, Allison Fitzgerald, Bryant Fitzgerald, and Charles Fitzgerald.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 195 S. Kankakee St., Coal City from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Joliet, IL.
