Obituary: Dustin Mayes

He had a contagious sense of humor and there will forever be a void in the lives of everyone that knew him.

Dustin W. Mayes, of Plainfield, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday July 12th, 2022. Dustin was born on June 26th, 1983, the son of William D. Mayes and Michelle H. Gurik. He was born and raised in Galion, Ohio and was a graduate of Northmor High School. Dustin has been employed since 2011 with Z Team Realty in Oak Brook Terrace.

Dustin moved from Ohio to Chicago in 2003 to pursue his music career. His passion for music was unrivaled and he was an accomplished guitarist, singer, and DJ. He never turned away from a challenge and he was a true inspiration to everyone that knew him. He took improv classes at Second City Chicago, competed in multiple air guitar competitions, and stole all our hearts with his love for life and his unmatched personality. He started his real estate career changing locks and mowing grass and worked his way up to Designated Managing Broker. He had a contagious sense of humor and there will forever be a void in the lives of everyone that knew him. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

Dustin is survived by his parents; fiancé Jody Donahue; stepdaughter, Stella Ratliff; brother, Khristopher Bush; and paternal grandparents, Adean and Nancy Mayes. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and so many friends and fans.

Visitation for Dustin W. Mayes will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road (at Essington Road) Joliet, IL, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The family requests that you dress casually and wear your favorite band attire.

A celebration of life will be held immediately following the visitation at Metal Monkey Brewing located at 515 Anderson Dr. Ste 900, Romeoville, IL 60446.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations in his name to School of Rock, 24026 Lockport St. Plainfield, Illinois 60544.
