Emilia Lopez Vazquez, age 92, late of Joliet and formerly of Chicago and Puerto Rico, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home with her loving family by her side.

Born October 30th, 1930 in Humacao, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Emilia Vazquez and Francisco Lopez. She worked as a sewing machine operator in textiles.
She met the love of her life, the late Emilio Negron Cruz in Chicago, and they enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage, making their home in Chicago for 18 years, before returning to Puerto Rico where they lived until 2017, moving to Joliet two weeks before Hurricane Maria.

Surviving is her loving daughter, Lydia (Juan) Jimenez of Joliet; four adoring grandchildren, Juan A. (Cynthia) Jimenez, II, Francisco (Jocelyn) Jimenez, Emily Negron and Richard (Jessica Moreno) Negron, Jr. ; four dear great-grandchildren, Destiny, Alyas, Elani and Julissa; 4 sisters, Noemi, Lydia, Iris and Ortencia; many nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Emilio Negron Cruz (September 14, 2019), her son, Richard Negron; her parents; brothers, Felix, Roberto and Joaquin and sister Genoveva.
Visitation for Emilia Lopez Vazquez will be held Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Jolet, IL. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Mary Immaculate Parish, Plainfield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Immaculate Cemetery, Plainfield.
