A longtime Joliet resident, who immigrated to the United States when he was just 16 years old, passes away at the age of 93.

Francisco Martinez
Francisco Martinez, age 93, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Lightways Hospice Home. Born in Villa Juárez, San Luis Potosí, Mexico on March 9, 1929, Francisco immigrated to the United States when he was just 16 years old, working various jobs throughout the country. On October of 1976, Francisco married Alicia Almazan, and the two most recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Francisco and Alicia settled in the Joliet area and raised their five children, Jimmy Martinez, Jose (Kimberly) Martinez, Maria (Marco) Barron, Sylvia (Noe) Mora, and Melisa Martinez. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren, John, Alicia Victoria, Francisco, Isabel, Alexander, Angel, Amara, Analiz, Lezlie, Aylin, Abelin, Aiden, Mallinalli, and Ollin; and his two brothers, Santos and Onesimo Martinez and various great grandchildren .

He is preceded in death by his parents, Baltazar and Maria Martinez; and sisters, Graciela and Ipolita; brother Silvano; and granddaughter, Aracelly .
Visitation for Francisco Martinez will be Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from 3-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black at Essington Rds., Joliet. Funeral services will be the following morning, Wednesday, December 7, 2022, leaving the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. and processing to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Joliet, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
