Obituary: James M. Howe
Veteran, earning the Bronze Star for his service in the Korean War and owner of Jim's Pest Control passes away at age 91.

James M. Howe
James Michael Howe, age 91, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 1, 1932, in Apalona, IN, he was the son of the late James Louis and Mary Ann (Sprinkle) Howe. He married the love of his life, Paula Jean (nee Russell) Howe on April 12, 1980, and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his passing.
After high school, James served his country honorably during the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Korea. He was employed by Caterpillar for many years, and also owned and operated Jim's Pest Control with his wife Paula.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband and father who was a hard worker and a good provider. He was a man of faith and an active member of the Hope for All Joliet Church of God. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a love and passion for history and was an avid reader of American History and World Wars. Jim never outgrew his childhood mischievousness and will be remembered for the enduring twinkle in his eye and how he kept his sense of humor throughout his life.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Paula; his son, Rob Howe of Joliet; his daughter Tammi Mercereau of Beecher, IL; three grandsons, Kyle Howe, Tyler Howe and Bryson Greenwald; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and ten brothers and sisters.
The family of James would like to thank Silver Cross Family Home Care, Lightways Palliative and Hospice Care, 911 EMTs and Lift Assist, for all their compassion, care, kindness and respect.
Visitation for James M. Howe will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 9:30 a.m., until the time of funeral services at 11:30 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery where military honors will be accorded by the United States Army and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
