Joaquin B. Cortez

Joaquin B. Cortez, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, at the age of 95, on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. He was born on August 16, 1927, in Grulla, Texas, the son of the late Priciliano and Dionicia (nee Barbosa) Cortez. Joaquin retired after more than 20 dedicated years from Railroad Industrial.

When he wasn’t hard at work at the railroad, Joaquin enjoyed staying busy fixing things around the house. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Joaquin enjoyed being outdoors, and more than anything, spending time with his family.

Joaquin is survived by his loving wife of 30+ years, Micaela (nee Popoca) Cortez; and his children, Alda Guzman, Nora Cortez, Carlos Cortez, Gerardo Solis, Omar Solis, Griselda Solis, Julio Solis, and Alan Solis. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

He is preceded by his parents; and his only brother, Pablo Cortez.

Funeral Services for Joaquin B. Cortez will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. As it was his request, cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
