John “Jack” Mitchell

John “Jack” Mitchell, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at Lightways Hospice Home in Joliet. Jack was born on October 23, 1937, in Chicago to the late Russell and Mary Mitchell. After proudly serving in the United States Army, Jack became an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He dedicated a career at Dairy Dealers, a family-owned Chicago distributor, with over 50 years of service. Since retirement, Jack enjoyed his family, friends, golfing, and watching his Chicago teams compete at times. He was fond of traveling with his wife, especially to Las Vegas, and spending their winters in Cape Canaveral.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kathleen Mitchell; his children, Dawn MacLearie, Debbie Spiers, Dan Mitchell, Rosemary Mitchell, Peggy (Dan) Pierce, Eileen (Tim) O’Marrah, and Patrick (Alison) Mitchell; his 12 grandchildren, Tim, Elizabeth, Krissy, Eric, Katy, Maureen, Jack, Maggie, Michael, Delaney, Aislinn, and Liam; and three great-grandchildren, Lilianna, Antonio, and Daniel.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Catherine Mitchell; and sisters Joan (Nick) Kuhn and Rosemary Mitchell.

Visitation for Jack will be Friday, October 6, from 4-8 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet.
