Obituary: Mary Anne Hemza

Mary dedicated her life to her treasured family and to the compassionate care of her pediatric and hospital patients.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary Anne Hemza

Mary Anne Hemza, 59, of Channahon, IL, passed away peacefully on August 10th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Hinsdale, IL, on May 8th, 1966, to Donald and Mary Bochar, Mary showed kindness to all those she touched.

After graduating cum laude from the University of St. Francis with a degree in nursing, Mary dedicated her life to her treasured Morris Hospital family and to the compassionate care of her pediatric and hospital patients.

In her spare time, she enjoyed lengthy walks with her faithful canine companions, Cricket and Mabel. As well as spending much time with her cherished grandchildren, going on road trips, and camping with her devoted husband.

Mary dedicated twenty years of her life to Karate; studying under her sensei in sho-rei and go-ju, she achieved a third-degree black belt, and grew a loving third family.

Mary is survived by her supportive parents; her devoted husband, Jeffrey Hemza; her beloved children, Alyssa (Ben) Cochran, Geoffrey (Mya) Hemza, Olivia (William) Moyers, Kirk (Katherine) Jones; and her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin, Tilda, Perry, Asher, Jordyn, Jasper, and eagerly anticipated Maryann Alise.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Mary's church, The Village Christian Church of Minooka; or for the wishes of the family.

To honor Mary's wishes, a celebration of life ceremony will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Village Christian Church of Minooka, 8965 Bell Rd., Minooka. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Mary will be missed by all who knew her gentle, selfless loving soul.
