A longtime Rockdale resident passes away at age 85.

Mary Lou Morales, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockdale, IL, on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Martindale, TX, on March 10, 1938, the daughter of the late Domingo and Maria (nee Garza) Guardiola. She attended Central High School in Texas and worked for several years at R.O.W Window Company.

Mary Lou is survived by her son, Luis (Holly) Morales; daughter, Sarita (Eric) Woerheide; grandchildren, Landon, Ava and Thea; siblings, Sam (Anita) Guardiola and Rebecca (Robert Pena) Guardiola; close friends, Janie, Mary Ann, Nancy, and Nicole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded by her loving husband of 59 years, Pedro “Pete” Morales; siblings, Theresa (George Rada) Balli, Enedina (Esiquio) Salazar, Dora (Porfirio) Rivera, Robert (Susan) Guardiola, Edward (Nadine) Guardiola, Domingo (Matilda) Guardiola, Jr. and Jesse (Virginia) Guardiola.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to her caregivers, Pam, Chelsie, and Vee, for all the love and care they showed for Mary Lou and the family.

A Memorial Gathering for Mary Lou Morales will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
