A proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and member of Laborers' Union Local 75 passes away at the age of 72.

Michael B. “Mike” Staley
Michael B. “Mike” Staley, age 72, of Joliet, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2023. Mike was born on October 6, 1950, the son of the late Thomas Edward and Martha Colleen (nee Lemley) Staley. Born in Davenport, IA, grew up in Joliet, IL, and was a graduate of Joliet East High School, where he was a standout athlete in baseball and basketball. Mike achieved All-Star status at every level of participation. He pitched a no-hit shut out in the Pony League World Series tournament in National City, CA for Joliet Ingalls Park All-Stars. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corps, where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, a Rifle Marksman Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal. Mike was a member of Laborers’ Union Local 75 and worked for PT Ferro Construction Company for 23 dedicated years.

In his free time, Mike was an avid golfer and gardener. He enjoyed his time at Lake Ripley, fishing and boating with family and friends. He was a diehard Cubs fan; season ticket holder & was elated to see them win a World Series during his lifetime.
Mike is survived by his partner, Karla Wojcik; his daughters, Carrie (Corey) Hromek, Lauren (Chris O’Hara) Staley; his grandchildren, Amelia and Christian Hromek and Matthew Ferry; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his friends, Becca Wlodarczyk and Harvey “T-Bird” (Debbie) Huckstep.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Colleen (Coke) and Thomas Staley, and his sister and brother-in-law, Candace and Samuel Mancuso.
Family and friends of Michael Brent Staley are invited to meet at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, for committal services where full military honors will be held under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps and the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad. As it was his request, cremation rites have been accorded.
