Obituary: Mildred L. Balogh (nee Goles)

She was an avid bird watcher, with a special affinity of cardinals, and she had an extensive collection of anything Tweety Bird.

Mildred L. Balogh, age 81, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born on June 22, 1944 in Chicago to John and Lillian (Hrabak) Goles. She was a longtime resident on the Northside of Chicago for over 50 years before relocating to Plainfield with her family. For 30 years, Mildred worked at Bankers Life and Casualty, where she was a supervisor for claim adjustments. Mildred enjoyed cooking, gardening, swimming, reading, and drawing. She was an avid bird watcher, with a special affinity of cardinals, and she had an extensive collection of anything Tweety Bird.

Mildred is survived by her beloved children, Maria (Gary) McElhone and Erno John Balogh; three grandsons, Dennis James (fiancee Victoria Novielli), Patrick Jonathan, and Brian Joseph (Veronica Castillo) McElhone; her sweet mini dachshund, Oddie; and her fur grand-babies, Dakota, Savanna, Shelby, Fifi, Gracie 1, Gracie 2, and Captain.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Erno Balogh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2500 Arbeiter Rd., Joliet, Illinois 60431.

Visitation for Mildred Balogh will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2500 Arbeiter Rd. in Joliet, from 10:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Plainfield Township Cemetery.
