Obituary: Patricia A. Lackey

A local teacher and musician passes away at the age of 86.

Patricia A. Lackey

Age 86, resident of Plainfield, IL, formerly of Stillman Valley, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born August 26, 1934, in Hennepin, IL to the late Vincent and Virginia (nee Swanson) Jones.

Pat graduated from Joliet Township High School, Joliet Musical College, and Illinois State University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education. She did graduate work in Music at Northern Illinois University and the University of Illinois and graduate work in Special Education and Music Therapy at Illinois State University and church Music at St. Olaf College. Her teaching experience is very extensive having taught General Music, Choral Music, and Instrumental Music at various schools throughout Illinois. Pat is certified in Suzuki Talent Education and was the co-director and instructor at Joliet Area Suzuki Strings. She maintained a studio for private violin and cello students.

She was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and the Four Encore String Quartet. Music was her hobby, work/life passion. She enjoyed the traveling that she completed to receive her Suzuki Certification. She was also devoted to her family and enjoyed being a grandma to Richie.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Phillip M. Lackey of Plainfield, IL; her four children, William ‘Billy’ (Mary) Lackey of Shorewood, IL, Michael (Ray) Lackey of Exira, IA, Deborah (Richard, Jr.) Zola of Shorewood, IL, John (Chau Tran) Lackey, of St. Pete, FL; grandson, Richard ‘Richie’ (Keziah Cobden) Zola of Shorewood, IL; sister, Pamela Jones of Clearwater, FL; several nieces, nephews and dear friends also survive.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Pat’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Centered Care Hospice for the support and care they received. Also, they would like to thank Right At Home Caregivers for their assistance and continued support.

Visitation for Patricia A. Lackey will be Sunday, April 18, 2021, 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Facemasks are required and capacity restrictions will be observed. Visitation will resume Monday, April 19, 2021, 12 Noon until time Funeral Services at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
