ROBERT H. BENNETT 1937-2024
Born in Oak Park on February 26, 1937, Bob went to Zion Lutheran School in Summit, graduated from Argo High School (1954), and earned his B.S. from Lewis University (1973). On January 29, 2024, Bob went to his heavenly home.

After high school, he was drafted into the U. S. Army and stationed in France where he processed classified documents. After returning home, he was a volunteer member of the Summit Fire Department and eventually became an officer on the police force. During his life, he was also a chemist, lab director, and national sales manager for a chemical transporting company.
Bob married Ruth (Hodgson) in 1964. Always looking for excitement, they raised Great Danes, chihuahuas, a steer, a lamb, and maintained a bee hive (in addition to children).

In 1987, Bob and Ruth bought Mauries Table in Joliet, which they owned and operated until they retired in 2000. After, they spent their time traveling to the Caribbean and helping to raise their three grandsons, who affectionately referred to him as Pops. During his golden years, he considered his time with his grandchildren as his third, and favorite, career.
Bob is survived by his wife, Ruth, two sons, Bob and Alex, and three grandsons, Anthony, Dominic, and Rob.
Bob served on the Church council of Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church in Lockport, was on the Advisory Council to the Royal Resorts in Cancun, was an ICC practitioner, and was involved with youth sports.
He was the son of James and Anna Bennett (deceased) and the brother of Jim, Donald, Larry (deceased) and Ken. He is also survived by dear nieces, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, February 5 from 4 to 7 at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home at 3200 Black Rd in Joliet, Il. The funeral will be on Tuesday, February 6 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation an hour before at St. Peters Lutheran Church on 310 N Broadway, Joliet, Il. Interment will follow the service at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood, Il.
Memorials in his name may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Lightways Hospice.
