Obituary: Robert Valentine Farej

He was, in many ways, a shepherd, bringing his family and friends together and strengthening the bonds that held them close.

Robert Valentine Farej, passed away at the age of 78, on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He was born on October 2, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Frank and Marie (nee Coler) Farej.

A longtime active parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church, Robert’s Catholic faith was his foundation. He lived that faith daily in the way he loved his family and cared for those around him. He was, in many ways, a shepherd, bringing his family and friends together and strengthening the bonds that held them close.

Robert is survived by his children, Matthew (Meghan) Farej, Megan (Mark) Bunyan, and Mary (Ben) Kinney; his grandchildren, Michaela Farej, Mason Farej, Madden Farej, Liam Kinney, and Gavin Bunyan; his loving companion, Joyce Hogue; and his brothers, Steve (Barb) Farej, Jim (Jeanine) Farej, and Tom (Tanna) Farej. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Services for Robert Valentine Farej will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 9:15 a.m. from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, IL to Holy Family Catholic Church in Shorewood, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to Cornelia de Lange Syndrome Foundation.
