Obituary: Wankham Butthajit

After 70 years of devotion to family, faith, and community, a longtime Joliet resident passes away.

Obituary was published and funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care and direction of the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home and Crematory.

Wankham Butthajit

After 70 years of devotion to family, faith, and community, Wankham Butthajit passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024. Wankham was born the daughter of Peng and Doung Chittaphong on August 5, 1953 in Ban Pa-O, Laos. In 1981, she immigrated to the United States with her husband and four children and settled in Joliet, IL. Wankham was a dedicated Buddhist and attended the Wat Lao Buddharam of Illinois, where she continued to serve the Lao community as a prominent member of the temple.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Srisuphan Butthajit; her brother, Leck Chittaphong; two sisters, Chanthanome Dapv and Sengchanh Ppd; four children, Ting Butthajit Stadt, Dao Butthajit, Anusit Butthajit, and Anusorn Butthajit; five grandchildren and great-grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Peng and Doung Chittaphong.

Funeral services for Wankham Butthajit will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by visitation until 4:00 p.m.
