Beef Shack Coming To Jefferson Street
This week, Joliet's City Council gave the go-ahead for a drive-thru window at 1606 W. Jefferson St.

JOLIET, IL - Back in the day, the Taco Bell restaurant at 1606 W. Jefferson St. was the popular hangout for Joliet area teenagers, but those days are long gone. Eventually, that Taco Bell closed. In more recent times, the fast-food building served as a Shrimp House, but that restaurant later folded. Now, the property will be turned into a Beef Shack Restaurant, according to city of Joliet officials.
On Tuesday night, the Joliet City Council approved plans for a drive-thru window for the Beef Shack. City officials endorsed the project. "The applicant has provided adequate signs and pavement markings for sufficient traffic flow into the drive thru while maintaining sufficient drive thru storage capacity to meet the requirements of the Department of Public Works," stated City Manager David Hales.
The city memo did not indicate a time frame on when the Beef Shack aims to open. City documents reflect that the Beef Shack applicant was Jerry Cairo of Oak Park.
