Angel Contreras, Joliet Township's Elected Supervisor Until 2024, Gives Joliet Police Fake Name: Cops
Joliet Township's elected supervisor and an influential Will County Democrat, Angel Contreras was picked up for his third DUI in June 2022.

JOLIET, IL — The days of Angel Contreras holding political office in Joliet as a Democratic Party official came to an end a couple of years ago as a result of his troubles involving driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a proper driver's license. This week, the Joliet Police Department arrested the former Joliet Township Supervisor once again.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 9:44 p.m. Feb. 2, officers on patrol made a traffic stop on a Toyota Highlander in the 500 block of Herkimer Street for improper lane usage. When asked for identification, the adult male driver was unable to produce a driver’s license and initially to provided a name and date of birth to the officers, English said.
Following additional investigation of the identifying information provided by the driver, officers determined the driver had provided a fictitious name and date of birth, English revealed.

Contreras was processed at the Joliet Police Department and released on a notice to appear in court. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

In July 2024, Joliet Patch published a story about Contreras headlined, "Too Many DUIs: Joliet Township Supervisor's Political Career Ends." The article stated that after more than two years of prolonged pretrial filings, Contreras admitted he was a repeat drunken driver and had no business driving a motor vehicle at the time of his latest arrest on Joliet's west side during the wee hours of the morning on Father's Day weekend of 2022.
Contreras pleaded guilty to his first felony DUI in Joliet, aggravated DUI. He also pleaded guilty to another felony offense involving driving on a suspended/revoked license. Will County prosecutors noted that Contreras was given a standard sentence: two years of probation, 480 hours of community service, and orders to participate in a victim impact panel. Contreras did not have to serve any more jail time than what he already did in 2022.
His resignation as a Joliet Township's elected official was not a stipulation in order to obtain the guilty plea, Will County prosecutors told Patch.
