JOLIET, IL — The empty Pier 1 Imports store near the Louis Joliet Mall along Route 30 has been torn down in recent weeks to make way for a new Starbucks coffeehouse. The Starbucks at 3064 Plainfield Road would offer a drive-thru window, according to plans approved by the Joliet City Council last year.

The demolition of the Pier 1 store marks the second commercial lot in a row to be demolished within the past year along Plainfield Road.

Last summer, the vacant Diamand's Family Restaurant was torn down for a fast-food restaurant redevelopment. A Raising Cane's chicken fingers restaurant with a drive-thru window is now being built in its place.
