JOLIET, IL —Last weekend's theft of Pizza Puffs and deodorant from the Jewel-Osco on Joliet's North Larkin Avenue has led to the indefinite detention for 26-year-old Crest Hill resident Joshua Fase, after he experienced an outburst in the courtroom of Will County Judge Jessica Colon-Sayre, court files show.
"Defendant causes disruption in court and ordered remanded," the judge's order noted.

According to his criminal complaint, Fase was charged with retail theft because he knowingly carried away merchandise from the Jewel-Osco at 1537 North Larkin Ave., being Pizza Puffs and deodorant, "without paying the full value of such merchandise."
Fase was also charged with criminal trespass at the same Jewel-Osco because he had already received prior notice from the owner or occupant of the Jewel-Osco store that his entry is forbidden, court documents indicate.

This week, the Will County State's Attorney's Office filed a petition for revocation of pretrial release for Fase. The document indicates that on Dec. 8, Fase was given pretrial release to appear in Will County court on Dec. 24, and a condition of his release was not to commit any more criminal offenses and to appear in court. Fase failed to show up for his Dec. 24 hearing, prosecutors indicated.
On Nov. 10, Fase was sentenced to two years of probation for an aggravated battery crime; a petition to revoke probation is now pending and set for March 18 before Will County Judge Tom Slazyk in Courtroom 801. Prosecutors noted pointed out that on Feb. 14, Fase failed to abide by these conditions of release in that he committed retail theft and criminal trespass at the Joliet Jewel-Osco on Larkin Avenue.
"No condition or combination of conditions of release would reasonably assure the appearance of the defendant for subsequent hearings or prevent the defendant from subsequently being charged with a felony or Class A misdemeanor," wrote prosecutor Erika Hamer.
Last July, Fase was the focus of a Joliet Patch crime story headlined, "Man Wrapped Fingers Around Woman's Neck And Applied Pressure For 30 Seconds: Crest Hill PD."
