Police Blotter: Baby-Toting Mom Attacks Officer, Says Cops

And two men were picked up on weapons charges in unrelated cases.

A woman caught shoplifting attacked a cop and scratched up his face, said.

Angelique Morgan, 17, of 1702 Houston Ave. was arrested at the in the Louis mall about 3:45 p.m. Thursday.

Loss prevention officers took Morgan into custody and held her until officers arrived, police said.

Since Morgan had a baby with her, officers left her uncuffed and told her to find a relative to take the child, police said.

Instead, Morgan tried to make her getaway, police said, and when an officer tried to stop her she struck him repeatedly in the face, cutting and scratching him.

Another officer arrived and assisted the cop facing the wrath of Morgan, police said. He reportedly managed to subdue Morgan, her baby was placed in a stroller and she was handcuffed.

Morgan was booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting a police officer and retail theft.

Gun charge

A Crest Hill man was caught with a gun in his car Thursday night, police said.

Devin Jones, 23, of 1805 Arbor Lane was taken into custody about 8 p.m.

Officers sent to check out a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on North Hickory Street found Jones and another man in the vehicle, police said.

An officer spotted the grip of a handgun poking out from the driver's seat Jones was sitting in. Jones admitted the gun was his, police said.

Since Jones has no Firearm Owner's Identification Card he was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Jones was also reportedly wanted for failing to appear in court for a domestic battery case.

Jones was booked into the county jail.

Residence raided

Joliet police raided a house on Juniper Street Thursday morning and arrested a man on gun and drug charges.

Anthony Franklin, 34, of 809 Juniper was arrested after police hit his house about 10:30 a.m.

Franklin was jailed on charges of possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of a firearm without an owner's identification card, and possession of cannabis.

Officers armed with a search warrant located a Kel-Tec PLR-16 in Franklin's residence, ammunition and marijuana, police said.
