Speedway Thief Gets Tased Inside McDonald's On Jefferson: JPD

As Joliet police escorted Carlos Jones from the McDonald's, he intentionally struck an officer in the eye with his head, police announced.

JOLIET, IL — A 28-year-old homeless man who kept stealing from Joliet's Speedway gas station on Jefferson Street is now in Will County's Jail after attacking Joliet police trying to arrest him inside the nearby McDonald's restaurant, police reports indicate.

At the time of his arrest, Joliet police used a taser to subdue Carlos Jones; who used his head to strike a Joliet officer in the eye, according to police spokesman Dwayne English.

Now, Jones, who comes from Nashville, Tennessee, according to Will County Jail logs, is charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of retail theft, criminal trespass and resisting arrest.

Joliet police say the former Nashville resident went into the Speedway gas station at 1621 West Jefferson around 6:35 a.m. on Tuesday and opened a package of medicine and put it in his pockets. Jones then left the Speedway without paying for anything, police noted.

"Officers also determined that Jones was responsible for retail theft at this same location the day before in which he took numerous food items," English announced.

The police learned that Jones was inside the McDonald's about a block away and "Jones began yelling at officers as they attempted to question him for the retail theft," English stated. "As officers attempted to place Jones into custody, he began swinging his arms and refused to obey officers’ commands."

One officer used a Taser to subdue Jones in the McDonald's and he was taken into custody, English noted

"As officers escorted Jones from the McDonald’s, he intentionally struck an officer in the eye with his head," police reports show.
