Popular Mexican Restaurant Changes Hands In Joliet

El Primo Mexican Restaurant no longer has two sit-down restaurants on Joliet's near west side.

JOLIET, IL —One month after celebrating the grand opening of its third Joliet restaurant, the owners of El Primo Mexican Restaurant are back to operating two restaurants.

On Monday, a coming soon banner for a place called Pollo Loco Al Carbon was displayed along the building at the corner of North Hickory and Ruby Streets.

This had been the site of El Primo No. 1.

As of this week, El Primo is continuing to operate its sit-down and carryout Mexican restaurants at 700 Ruby St. plus the new El Primo that just opened in downtown Joliet, at the site of the former Stefanich's Restaurant & Lounge, 457 North Scott. St.

Employees at the new downtown El Primo said that someone is leasing the former El Primo at Ruby and Hickory Street and another restaurant is expected to open there.

Meanwhile, El Primo wants to get out the word that its new downtown Joliet restaurant is now offering breakfast specials. The El Primo on North Scott is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The phone number for the new downtown restaurant is 815-409-7500.
