MORRIS, IL — Several people reported on social media Wednesday afternoon that a small plane crashed into the water near Morris. Unconfirmed reports had the plane going down in the area of Sable Island, in the vicinity of Heidecke Lake and the Illinois River. The Morris Fire Department is reportedly on the scene.
A subsequent story in The Morris Herald News indicated the crash occurred around 2 p.m. Two people were on board the plane, but neither was seriously injured. The pilot had suffered a head injury but he was alert, according to the paper.
A Morris Fire Department representative told Joliet Patch around 2:50 p.m. that fire officials were still on the scene and a press release would likely be issued later Wednesday.
