JOLIET, IL — It was 5 a.m. and while most people in Will County were still fast asleep in their bed, a man from Romeoville was pulling into the new parking lot at 3000 Plainfield Road. Rich wanted to be the first customer to eat at Joliet's new Raising Cane's.

"It was 5:05 a.m. actually," Rich clarified. "Their food is good. The chicken sandwich is my favorite."

Luck was on his side.

Rich became the first person to step inside the new Raising Cane's for Tuesday grand opening festivities. With hundreds of people lined up outside the restaurant and waiting in their vehicles in the double-drive thru, the Raising Cane's opened for business at 9:30 a.m.

History was made in Joliet, and Rich got a bite of that history, actually several bites. He ordered the No. 1 and the No. 4 and sat down inside the restaurant to enjoy his fresh meals.

Steven Cole, the new general manager for the Joliet Raising Cane's on Plainfield Road, said he was hoping to have about 4,000 customers pass through the front counter and the drive-thru on Tuesday. Patch asked if he had a message he wanted to share.

"Just that we're super excited to be here," Cole said. "I know a lot of people had to travel to the other locations."

As the line stretched outside the building around 9:15 a.m., Plainfield resident Jay Enix posed for a photo with Lasonya Smith and Anthony Green of Joliet.

Patch asked the young man from Plainfield if he had a favorite meal at Raising Cane's.

"It's the three chicken fingers, and it fills me up fast, especially the sauce," he said.
