Random Victim Stabbed In Joliet On East Cass: Police

During the investigation, Joliet police say Markese Rhodes, age 23, was identified as the suspect and the attack appeared unprovoked.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police say a 23-year-old resident has been arrested in connection with a random stabbing that took place shortly before lunch on Friday. The culprit, according to Joliet police, Markese Rhodes, is now lodged in the Will County Adult Detention Facility facing one charge of aggravated battery.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:

At 11:49 a.m., an officer was flagged down near East Cass Street and Collins Street by a 41-year-old man who had been stabbed in the left arm by another man in the 300 block of East Cass Street.

Officers provided first aid until the arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics. During the investigation, Rhodes was identified as the suspect and the attack appeared to be unprovoked.

Officers found Rhodes in the 400 block of East Cass Street, and he was placed into custody without incident. Upon search of Rhodes, Officers recovered a pocketknife. Injuries to the victim were considered non-life threatening.
