Monday's confirmation of Olive Garden expanding to Joliet marked one of the city's biggest restaurant success stories in many years.

JOLIET, IL — On Monday afternoon, Joliet Patch broke an exclusive story that was shared on Facebook by hundreds and hundreds of loyal readers: Olive Garden is coming to Joliet.

The new Olive Garden will be built on land along Route 30 near the Interstate 55 exit for The Boulevard, the development anchored by the new Costco and hundreds of acres of undeveloped real estate. City of Joliet officials said the Olive Garden is expected to open in 2022.

Part of The Boulevard is located in the village of Plainfield, but some of it is in Joliet. The land where Olive Garden will go is part of Joliet.

News of the Olive Garden building in Joliet will certainly go down in history as one of the biggest Joliet restaurant stories in recent memory. During the first seven hours of Monday's article being published, Joliet Patch's Olive Garden story got shared on Facebook at least 794 times, drawing at least 583 Patch reader comments and 999 Facebook reader reactions.
