Rep. Bill Foster 'Seriously Considering' Run for U.S. Senate

Naperville Democrat tells Sun-Times columnist Lynn Sweet that he's moving ahead with a 2016 senate run against Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL).

U.S. Rep. Bill Foster, told the Sun-Times political columnist Lynn Sweet that he is “seriously considering” a U.S. Senate run.

This is the first time Foster has vocalized his interest in taking on U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) in 2016, Sweet says.

Foster’s district encompasses parts of Will, DuPage, Kendall, Kane and Cook Counties, and stretches from the western suburbs to two of Illinois’s largest cities, Aurora and Joliet.

Sweet says the Naperville resident is moving ahead after Kirk and 46 other GOP senators signed a letter to the president of Iran urging him not to sign a deal with the Obama administration limiting Iran’s nuclear capability. Foster called the action “irresponsible.”

Also seriously mulling a senate run are Illinois Democratic House reps Tammy Duckworth, Cheri Bustos and Robin Kelly.

Former U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh now conservative radio talk show host, is also contemplating running against Kirk in the 2016 Republican senate primary.

Foster has the biggest bankroll to finance a campaign, Sweet notes.
