Roommate Smiles After Putting 2 People In St. Joe's Hospital: JPD

The 64-year-old woman attempted to intervene and William Garcia, 29, struck her in the wrist and fell atop her, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — William Garcia, a 29-year-old Joliet resident of the 100 block of Inwood Drive, on the city's west side, smiled for his mugshot at the Joliet police station after being arrested on charges of aggravated battery and battery, an incident that sent to two people to the hospital.

Garcia's violent attack happened early this morning, at 3:30 a.m., according to arrest logs. Both of Garcia's roommates, a woman, 64, and a man, 57, were taken to St. Joe's hospital by Joliet Fire Department ambulance for treatment of their injuries.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the following events surrounded Garcia's arrest:

  • Officers responded to the house in the 100 block of Inwood for a disturbance where Garcia attacked two other residents.
  • While the man and woman were in a bedroom, their roommate, Garcia, began shouting and pounding on the bedroom door.
  • Garcia forced the door open, and he struck the 57-year-old man victim with a closed fist multiple times in the face.
  • When the 64-year-old woman tried to intervene, Garcia struck her in the wrist and fell atop her while he wrestled with the 57--year-old man.

Joliet police had no problems arresting Garcia.

Bail for Garcia was set on Wednesday at $5,000.
