Motorcyclist Airlifted After Route 53 Crash: Joliet Police

JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Coal City man was airlifted from the scene of a serious crash early Tuesday near Route 53 and West Compass Boulevard, Joliet police said.

The Joliet Police Department issued a Facebook alert notifying everyone that all lanes of South Chicago Street, better known as Route 53, were shut down after the crash.

According to police, a preliminary investigation indicated that a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 53-year-old Joliet woman was heading east on West Compass Boulevard just before 7 a.m. and attempting to turn left on Route 53 when it collided with the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was ejected and sustained serious injuries, police said. He was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The driver of the Jeep was evaluated at the scene by Joliet Fire Department paramedics for minor injuries.
