JOLIET, IL — A new lawsuit at the Will County Courthouse accuses the Walmart store on Route 59 of negligence surrounding the Jan. 22 slip and fall of Doreen Ellingwood, a Joliet resident who lives in the Plainfield area, according to court records.

After being injured at Walmart last winter, Ellingwood retained the Chicago law firm of Friend, Levinson and Turner to sue the giant national retail chain as well as Arctic Snow and Ice Control.

The lawsuit states while visiting the Route 59 Walmart, "Doreen Ellingwood was caused to fall on the parking lot at the aforesaid premises, with great force, thus sustaining severe and permanent bodily injury."

Eleven months ago, "Doreen Ellingwood was greatly injured and then and there did sustain severe and permanent injuries to her body and severe shock to her nervous system and mental faculties," argues her attorney William J. Turner.

The new Will County negligence lawsuit asks a judge and jury award the local woman a judgment in her favor against both Walmart and Arctic Snow and Ice Control "in an amount in excess of $50,000 plus costs of suit."

Arctic Snow and Ice Control is also named in the lawsuit because the company was contracted to maintain the property at 1401 Route 59, court records reflect.

The lawsuit incorrectly states that the plaintiff was visiting the Walmart in the "city of Shorewood." The store is part of Joliet.
