Pro-Life Tour Returns to Joliet, Shorewood, Plainfield Area

The group — and its signs — returns to Route 59 and Jefferson Street on Friday.

JOLIET, IL — The Pro-Life Action League will once again bring its "Face the Truth" tour — complete with sometimes graphic images — to the area on Friday. The group is planning to gather at busy intersections in Joliet and Shorewood. "Participants will visit sites throughout the Chicago area, holding pictures of beautiful unborn babies and huge signs depicting the victims of abortion," the group said in a news release.

On Friday, the tour will take them to the following intersections:

  • 9-10:30 a.m.: Jefferson Street and North Larkin Avenue, Joliet
  • 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Route 59 and Black Road, Shorewood
  • 3-4:30 p.m.: Route 59 and Caton Farm Road, Joliet

Friday marks the first stop on the tour, now in its 12th year. The Pro-Life Action League has drawn criticism for showing graphic images of aborted fetus. The group has responded to the criticism — often centered on the fact that children will see the photos as they drive past.

"While [drivers] may find the pictures disturbing as they pass by, we see no evidence that any real harm is done," the group has said on its website. "In fact, a child who sees the truth about abortion may be spared grave harm later in life by avoiding any involvement with abortion."

Signs are typically placed three-quarters of a mile before the demonstration site to alert drivers.
