JOLIET, IL —A personal injury law firm from Chicago is representing a woman who fell and broke her ankle nearly two years ago near Joliet's Sanford Food Mart at 121 Richards St.

Last week's lawsuit contends that Leslie Lee was on the walkway at the east-side grocer and tobacco store Sept. 10, 2018 when she "was caused to fall due to the defective condition of the sidewalk."

The civil lawsuit, brought forward by Polansky & Cichon, maintains that Sanford Food Mart had a duty to maintain and upkeep its store including its walkway and pathways near its premises.

"Leslie Lee was caused to trip, slip, stumble and or fall on said sidewalk and ... she sustained severe and permanent injuries including a fractured left ankle and as a result of said injuries the plaintiff has been required to undergo hospitalization and surgical intervention for the treatment of her said injuries," lawyer Jacqueline Cichon argues.

The lawsuit states that the defective sidewalk outside Sanford Food Mart was unknown to Lee prior to her fall.
