Senator Pat McGuire's Decision Surprises Some

McGuire is a Joliet Catholic High School graduate and a resident of Joliet.

JOLIET, IL — On Monday morning, Farmers Weekly Review Editor Nick Reiher broke the news that Joliet native and two-term state Sen. Pat McGuire is winding down his political career. McGuire will not seek another four-year term of office in 2020.

McGuire is a Democrat from Crest Hill.

According to his senate profile, "Pat McGuire has represented Senate District 43 since 2012. McGuire previously held elective office as a school board member and a county treasurer. Earlier, McGuire taught job health and safety to local union members and English to high school and community college students. McGuire attended Catholic schools in his hometown of Joliet. He is married to Lora, a native of Channahon, and the father of Molly, a resident of Los Angeles."

Joliet City Council Don "Duck" Dickinson reacted with surprise on Facebook to Monday's announcement. Dickinson praised McGuire for being an outstanding elected official.

One of Dickinson's followers also reacted with surprise to the news.

"What ??? No that's so sad," she commented.

"Perhaps the most passionate and thoughtful leader we have. He will be missed," another friend of Dickinson responded on social media.
