JOLIET, IL —The Will County Sheriff's Office issued a Facebook bulletin revealing there was an increased police presence on Friday morning at Crystal Lawns Elementary School in Joliet — as a direct result of area high school teenagers playing the senior prank game known as senior assassin.

"The Will County Sheriff’s Office would like to take this time to remind our community about a popular, and potentially dangerous, high school activity/prank known as “Senior Assassin," the announcement read.

"This game typically involves students being assigned another 'student-target' and attempting to eliminate them using water guns, while avoiding being tagged themselves. While often intended as a fun tradition, the way the game is played can create serious safety concerns. This could lead to a dangerous situation."

Because of the Senior Assassin game, Will County Sheriff's officials noted:

  • Neighbors may see suspicious behavior, hiding in the area, following people and call 911
  • High school participants may use water guns or other versions of airsoft guns that could look real
  • If police are called to investigate suspicious behavior, a situation could escalate quickly.
  • The game sometimes includes approaching areas that may lead to trespassing
  • "The WCSO strongly discourages participation in these 'Senior Assassin' pranks that seem to come about this time every Spring. We would like to ask parents to speak with their teenagers about making correct, smart and safe choices," the law enforcement agency emphasized.
