New PACE Bus Shelters Set Up, More Coming

Joliet has partnered with PACE to install the new structures, which will be funded with advertising.

The city of Joliet submitted this article:

Bus riders in Joliet will have greater protection against inclement weather due to the partnership between PACE and the city of Joliet. Four new bus stop shelters have been installed in the city of Joliet with three more expected in the near future.

The capital cost of the installation was paid for by PACE. PACE has engaged an advertising company to sell advertisements that will be displayed on panels in the shelters. The revenue from the advertising space will be used to defray the
cost of the shelters and help provide new shelters in other locations of Joliet.

Web Watch is PACE's online real-time bus arrival prediction service. The data generating the estimated arrival times comes from the Intelligent Bus System, a satellite-based communications technology similar to GPS systems.

With Web Watch, commuters can see an estimate of the times a PACE bus is expected to arrive. Riders can also view a map, in real time, showing the current location of the bus. The “Live Departure Times” feature will allow riders to retrieve real-time information regarding bus departure times.

Web Watch also offers the option of signing up for e-mail notifications to alert the rider when their bus is on its way. Real-time information will soon be available via a text message-based system.
