Sex Offender In Stolen Car Arrested At McDonald's: Cops

JOLIET, IL — Thursday morning's car theft in the 400 block of Joliet's Henderson Avenue led to the arrest of 38-year-old convicted sex offender Bon Scott Turnbaugh at the McDonald's restaurant at 508 East Cass St.

Shortly before noon, Joliet officers tried to pull over Turnbaugh at the McDonald's parking lot, but the sex offender ran from the stolen car, according to police reports.

"Once the vehicle stopped, the driver ran from the vehicle and through the parking lot," police spokesman Dwayne English indicated. "Officers quickly caught up to him and placed him into custody without incident."

English noted that further investigation determined that he also had an active Will County warrant for failing to register as a sex offender.

Now lodged inside a cell at the Will County Jail, Turnbaugh is being charged with motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer and having a Will County warrant.

There are no records in the Illinois State Police sex offender registry for anyone with the name of Bon Scott Turnbaugh. Will County Jail records indicate that Turnbaugh lived at 306 Fairbanks Ave., on the city's east side, not far from where the car theft occurred on Henderson Avenue.

Turnbaugh's bail has been set at $50,000. He remained in custody on Friday afternoon.
