Sexual Assault At Lois Place Apartments Leads To Arrest: JPD

JOLIET, IL — A 23-year-old Joliet resident who lives near Black Road and Larkin Avenue at the Lois Place apartments is now in the Will County Jail charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Joliet police took Derrick Gills into custody around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

At that time, officers were called to the 900 block of Lois Place for a welfare check. Officers determined that a 15-year-old girl had been kicked out of an apartment by Gills.

According to police spokesman Dwayne English, Joliet Police Department detectives and officers learned of suspected sexual contact between Gills and the juvenile victim.

Gills was transported to the Joliet Police Department for further questioning, and he was subsequently placed into custody without incident.

Gills remained in the Will County Jail on Wednesday, and his bail was set at $75,000.
