JOLIET, IL — Joliet police say Armani Gant was the person who shot a 19-year-old woman in the face on Jan. 15 as the woman was driving near the Louis Joliet Mall. Gant was booked into the Will County Jail around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Joliet police arrest logs indicate Gant lives in the 100 block of Mississippi Avenue. He is charged with aggravated battery with a gun, aggravated discharge of a gun, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

His bail is $500,000.

Around 3:25 p.m. on Jan. 15, Joliet police went to Ring Road and Tonti Drive after learning of a crash. A woman was shot in the face as she drove near the Louis Mall. A young man riding in her SUV as a passenger was not struck by the bullets.

Within a week of the shooting, Joliet police arrested 21-year-old Travion Terrell and police identified him as the getaway driver.

"During an extensive investigation, Joliet Police Detectives identified Gant as a suspect who was a passenger in the vehicle and had fired a weapon that struck the female victim," police announced on Thursday.

On Feb. 4, Joliet police got a warrant for Gant's arrest, but detectives were unable to find him until Tuesday night when he needed medical attention in the 300 block of North Broadway Street.

A Joliet Fire Department ambulance rushed him to St. Joe's hospital, and that's where Joliet police put him in custody. He was moved to the Will County Jail on Wednesday afternoon.

As for Terell, in July 2020, Joliet Patch reported that a 16-year-old boy was slain in the 1700 block of Arbor Lane and Crest Hill police arrested Travion Terrell, who lived in an apartment unit in the same block of the slaying.

At that time, Crest Hill Police Chief Ed Clark told Joliet Patch that Terrell was charged with two felonies: reckless discharge of a gun and involuntary manslaughter.

The Will County Coroner's office identified the 2020 shooting victim as Trayvon C. Frazier of Jackson, Tennessee. That shooting occurred inside a Crest Hill apartment unit. In July 2020, Terrell spent about 24 hours in the Will County jail in connection with his involuntary manslaughter charges from Crest Hill.

In that case, Terrell was released on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond.

Since his late January arrest following the non-fatal shooting by the Louis Mall, Terrell's bond has been revoked by a Will County judge, and he remains held without bail.
