Shorewood Man Trips, Drops Loaded Gun At Lois Place: Joliet Police

Joliet police said they approached the car to ensure the occupants were not trespassing when Leroy Devine, 34, ran from the vehicle.

JOLIET, IL — A 34-year-old Shorewood man who was patronizing the Lois Place apartment parking lot is now in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Leroy Devine ran from his car and dropped his gun on the ground.

Devine is now being detained at the Will County Jail where he's being charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing a peace officer and having an outstanding arrest warrant for aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer.

Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English said the incident unfolded around midnight on Friday, Oct 6.

According to English:

  • Officers on patrol in the 1000 block of Lois Place saw a Toyota Corolla parked in the parking lot. Officers approached the vehicle to ensure the occupants were not trespassing.
  • All of a sudden, Devine ran from the car.
  • Officers ran after Devine, who then tripped on a curb and dropped his handgun.
  • Officers caught up to Devine and placed him into custody without further incident.
  • The loaded handgun was recovered by Joliet police. Officers also determined that Devine held an arrest warrant for aggravated fleeing and eluding a peace officer.
